{"id":374817,"date":"2024-09-24T14:48:36","date_gmt":"2024-09-24T17:48:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/anba.com.br\/?p=374817"},"modified":"2024-09-24T14:48:41","modified_gmt":"2024-09-24T17:48:41","slug":"brazil-235mn-to-global-organizations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/anba.com.br\/en\/brazil-235mn-to-global-organizations\/","title":{"rendered":"Brazil: $235mn to global organizations"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 Brazil has made payments of BRL 1.3 billion [USD 235 million] since the beginning of this year related to commitments to international organizations, the country\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.br\/mre\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ministry of Foreign Affairs<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.br\/planejamento\/pt-br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ministry of Planning and Budget<\/a> said on Tuesday (24).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Detailing the payments, the ministries highlighted the settlement of contributions to the United Nations across its three components\u2014 regular budget, peacekeeping missions, and the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (IRMCT)\u2014totaling BRL 448.8 million (USD 86.7 million).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ministries also stated that, with these payments, Brazil joins a select group of countries that are fully compliant with their financial obligations to the UN, at a time when the organization is facing liquidity challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The fulfillment of commitments reflects the country\u2019s strong support for the UN mandates and multilateralism, stemming from efforts that began in 2023, when over BRL 1.1 billion [USD 199 million] was paid solely for peacekeeping missions, due to liabilities accumulated from previous years,\u201d the ministries stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Brazil settled contributions with other international organizations, including the World Trade Organization (WTO), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the World Health Organization (WHO), the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the Organization of American States (OAS), the Mercosur Secretariat, among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Strengthened Brazil<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis state of compliance reflects the collaborative efforts between the Foreign Affairs Ministry and the Planning and Budget Ministry.
