S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 On April 9th, the Syrian-Lebanese Hospital (HSL, in the Portuguese acronym), in S\u00e3o Paulo, will promote the 1st Symposium on Catastrophes. According to the institution, the event aims to bring together authorities and representatives of the leading public hospitals in the city to discuss the creation of a network to serve victims of catastrophes.<\/p>\n
According to HSL, considering that the city is hosting a growing number of major national and international events and will be one of the host cities to the FIFA World Cup 2014, a network must be planned that will function cohesively in case of crisis.<\/p>\n
Guests include representatives of the Military Police, the Fire Department and the State and Municipal Secretariats of Health. According to the HSL, lectures will be given by representatives of the company Emedex International, which managed the provision of aid to the victims of the earthquake in Haiti, last year, and the planning of services during the South Africa World Cup, also in 2010.<\/p>\n
Cases that have taken place recently in Brazil will be addressed, such as the flood and landslides seen in the mountain region of Rio de Janeiro early this year, in the state of Alagoas, in 2010, and in the state of Santa Catarina, in 2008.<\/p>\n
