S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 The Tunisian city of Tozeur launched the first edition of the International Oasis and Desert Tourism Exhibition on Tuesday (3). Known for its tourist attractions tied to the desert and oases, Tozeur expects to host around 300 professional tourism operators, influencers, and Tunisian and foreign journalists during the event, which runs until Thursday (5).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The city of Tozeur boasts a charming historic center, with narrow alleys and typically Tunisian buildings, as well as a museum showcasing aspects of Tunisia\u2019s culture. Green spaces intersperse the city, contrasting with the vast desert that begins nearby. The agricultural potential of these green areas sustains farming activities carried out by the local population, who are also active in the tourism industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The exhibition aims to position Tunisia as a leading destination for sustainable tourism, harmonizing economic development with the conservation of desert and oasis ecosystems. It seeks to highlight Tunisia\u2019s rich heritage by showcasing its natural, cultural, and historical assets, promoting the beauty of its deserts and oases, and enhancing the region\u2019s appeal and visibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Another purpose is to encourage investment in responsible tourism projects that promote local initiatives and stimulate regional development, while emphasizing the central role of women and local communities in managing and preserving tourist sites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The exhibition is a partnership between the public and private sectors and other key players in the field, such as the Ministry of Tourism, the National Tourism Board, the National Handicrafts Board, the Governorate of Tozeur, the Tunisian Federation of Travel Agencies and Tourism, and the Tunisian Federation of Hotels, with support from international organizations. Brazil\u2019s Agostinho Turbian, president of The Global Council of Sustainability & Marketing (GSCM), is participating in the Tunisian exhibition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
