S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 Arab culture will be represented at the 16th Immigrant’s Party, due May 29th and June 5th at Arsenal da Esperan\u00e7a (the Arsenal of Hope), in the Mooca neighbourhood of S\u00e3o Paulo. The Syrian Arab Cultural Centre will have two booths, one for selling handicraft and the other for Arab food. There will also be Arab dancing performances.<\/p>\n
According to information supplied by the Syrian Arab Cultural Centre, there will be handicraft items on sale and on display such as marquetry inlaid boxes, hookahs, trays, camel-shaped ashtrays, carpets, lighting fixtures, cushion covers, among others. At the food court there will be safihas, kibbehs, and Arab snacks and sweets, according to the organization.<\/p>\n
At least three Arab dancing groups will perform. One will be the Syrian Arab Cultural Centre\u2019s own group, which will perform choreographed numbers of dabke, a typical Syrian tap dancing. Four types of dances will be featured – Shams Nissan, Galbi Aaleik, Quli Labouk, Allah Allah \u2013 on May 29th at07:30 pm. The Souham and Mabruk groups should also perform Arab dancing numbers during the party.<\/p>\n
The Immigrant’s Party should congregate approximately 20 communities living in S\u00e3o Paulo, all of which will introduce their handicraft, dancing and cuisine; The list includes countries such as Japan, Russia, Lithuania, Turkey, Chile, Greece, Portugal, Germany, the Czech Republic, Italy, Poland, Australia, among others.<\/p>\n
Arsenal da Esperan\u00e7a is located in the historical building of Complexo da Hospedaria dos Imigrantes, which also houses Memorial do Imigrante (Immigrant\u2019s Memorial), currently undergoing refurbishing work. Over 2.5 million immigrants stayed at the old lodgings since the late 19th century.<\/p>\n
