S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 Mauritania carried out the Days of the Great Green Wall initiative until early this week. The series of activities aimed at accelerating the implementation of projects and programs for this green belt. Launched by the African Union, the project engages countries across the continent in restoring degraded landscapes and combating desertification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Organized by the National Agency for the Great Green Wall, the event took place under the theme \u201cTogether to Accelerate the Implementation of the Great Green Wall,\u201d featuring debates, project launches, and various training sessions. According to the Mauritanian state news agency AMI<\/a>, more than 200 people from Mauritania and elsewhere participated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The training sessions aimed to enhance the efficiency of degraded land restoration and natural resource management, as well as to strengthen the resilience of vulnerable local communities and ecosystems to climate change. A workshop was held to develop a project with this specific goal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the initiatives launched during the event was the Green Platform for the Women of the Great Green Wall. To move the project forward, national and regional offices will be established under the leadership of 30 women. The director-general of the National Agency for the Great Green Wall is herself a woman, Sidna Ould Ahmed Ely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

National priority<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

At the closing of the Days of the Great Green Wall, the acting secretary-general of the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development, Mohammed Abdullah Salma, said that the event reflected a collective commitment to tackling environmental challenges and promoting sustainable development. According to him, Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani has made environmental issues and the fight against desertification within the framework of the Great Green Wall a national priority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
