S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 The Brazilian oil company Petrobras increased its oil and gas production by 0.6% in May compared with April. Last month, the company extracted 2,361,080 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boe\/d), as against 2,345,989 boe\/d in April. In comparison with May 2010, there was growth of 0.4%.<\/p>\n
The volume of natural gas produced in May was 56.89 million cubic metres, representing growth of 7.8% over May 2010, and of 4.5% compared with April this year.<\/p>\n
The entry into operation of new wells in four rigs in the Campos Basin made up for others that underwent maintenance during the month. Thus, Petrobras\u2019 oil output in May reached 2,003,198 barrels\/day, the same level as in April.<\/p>\n
The company\u2019s international production of oil and gas combined reached 225,238 boe\/d last month, 2.5% more than in April. Increased operational efficiency in the field of Akpo, in Nigeria, contributed to the increase. <\/p>\n
Production of natural gas abroad reached 15.89 million cubic metres, a 2% reduction over May 2010, caused by a slight natural decline at gas fields in Argentina. In comparison with April 2011, there was an increase of 4.2%.<\/p>\n
Average production of oil and natural gas by Petrobras in Brazil and overseas, in May, reached 2,586,318 barrels of oil equivalent per day. The result is 0.8% greater than the total extracted in April 2011. Compared with the same period of 2010, there was a 0.5% decline.<\/p>\n
