S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 The City Hall of Recife<\/strong>, the capital of Pernambuco state, is working to attract foreign investment and is starting to engage with Arab countries for this. The city\u2019s Secretary of Economic Development, Carlos Andrade Lima, met with leaders of the Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce<\/strong> (ABCC) in S\u00e3o Paulo on Thursday (20) as part of his schedule in the city this week to discuss international investments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAnything an entrepreneur needs when arriving in Recife goes through the Secretariat of Economic Development. So, we\u2019re doing this roadshow to showcase that the Secretariat is open for business and to present what Recife is, its DNA, what the city has to offer, and what it can show to Brazil and the world,\u201d Lima told ANBA.<\/p>\n\n\n

The secretary sees great potential in the Arab world. He notes that Brazil\u2019s international relations are largely limited to the United States and China and wants to diversify. The schedule in S\u00e3o Paulo, which began on Monday (17) and will continue until Friday (21), includes meetings with companies, institutions, consulates, and associations from countries such as Japan and Canada, among others, in addition to the Arab nations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Secretary Lima presented to the ABCC leaders what he sees as Recife\u2019s main investment attractions<\/strong>: health<\/strong>, technology<\/strong>, and health-focused technology<\/strong>. \u201cRecife has a digital port, an ecosystem with over 400 companies and more than 21,000 people working in the city center,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n

According to the secretary, Recife has more IT students per capita than any other Brazilian capital and the second-largest medical hub in revenue in Brazil. \u201cThese are very strong sectors, so we need to showcase them and emphasize that Recife is open to receiving more and more technologies, especially in the medical field.\u201d However, he says the city is interested in all types of investments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To attract Arab investments, Lima expressed his willingness to visit Arab countries and host Arab entrepreneurs in Recife. At the ABCC, he discussed joint efforts to attract investments, exploring opportunities in missions, investment forums, and key sectors. Talks will continue to develop a plan aligned with Arab interests and Recife’s characteristics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the ABCC, Lima was welcomed by President William Adib Dib Jr., International Relations Vice President and Secretary-General Mohamad Mourad, Board Member Arthur Jafet, and Institutional Relations Director Fernanda Baltazar. The Executive Secretary of Development and Innovation of Recife, Gelisa Bosi, and the General Manager of Investe Recife, Pedro Leonardo Lacerda, also participated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
