{"id":389964,"date":"2025-06-10T15:50:30","date_gmt":"2025-06-10T18:50:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/anba.com.br\/?p=389964"},"modified":"2025-06-10T15:50:33","modified_gmt":"2025-06-10T18:50:33","slug":"brazilian-wins-award-for-art-in-saudi-arabia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/anba.com.br\/en\/brazilian-wins-award-for-art-in-saudi-arabia\/","title":{"rendered":"Brazilian wins award for art in Saudi Arabia"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 Brazilian artist and olfactory researcher <a href=\"http:\/\/karolabraga\/\">Karola Braga<\/a> was one of the winners of this year\u2019s 11<sup>th<\/sup> Art and Olfaction Awards 2025, granted by the Institute for Art and Olfaction in California, United States. The award ceremony took place in Los Angeles on May 29 and recognized the work <em>Sfumato<\/em> in the Experimental category. <em>Sfumato<\/em> was presented by Braga at the Desert X exhibition in Al Ula, Saudi Arabia, in early 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cJust being among the finalists made me feel honored, but of course, being there, you always have some expectation [of winning],\u201d the artist told ANBA on Tuesday (10). It had been there, in Los Angeles in 2023, that the opportunity arose for Braga to take her research and art to Saudi Arabia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She was also a finalist for that year\u2019s award with a work created for the Mercosur Biennial. Although she didn\u2019t win, she had the opportunity to meet one of the Desert X curators, Brazilian Marcello Dantas. It was during a conversation with Dantas that she proposed to \u201cperfume the Saudi desert\u201d at Desert X.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For the exhibition, Braga created a \u201cgiant\u201d incense burner with symbolic fragrances from a region known as part of the incense route between the 3<sup>rd<\/sup> century BCE and the 2<sup>nd<\/sup> century CE. Among the scents released into the air were myrrh and frankincense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The awards also recognized artists and perfumers in categories such as Artisan Perfume, Independent Perfume, and Emerging Artist, among others, with winners from Thailand, Taiwan, the USA, China, and Romania.
