S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 The Brazilian Foreign Minister, Antonio Patriota, visited Morocco on Monday (5). Patriota and the Moroccan Foreign Minister, Taib Fassi Fihri, met in Rabat and discussed the expansion of trade relations between both countries.<\/p>\n
Morocco is one of the main trade partners of Brazil in the Arab world, but, according to news agency Maghreb Arab Presse<\/i> the Foreign Minister of Morocco concluded, during the meeting, that it is possible to improve bilateral trade between both nations.<\/p>\n
According to the Brazilian Foreign Office (Itamaraty), trade exchange between both countries totalled US$ 1.37 billion in 2010. From January to July this year, bilateral trade reached US$ 981.3 million. The foreign minister of Brazil and the Moroccan minister did not, however, reveal in what areas it would be possible to improve trade relations between both nations. In July, however, the ambassador of Morocco to Brazil, Mohamed Louafa, said that airline Royal Air Maroc (RAM) should start flying to Brazil late this year. The company should have two weekly flights between S\u00e3o Paulo and Casablanca. <\/p>\n
Apart from the improvement of bilateral trade between Brazil and Morocco, both ministers discussed political affairs. Patriota thanked Morocco for the support to the candidacy of the Brazilian Jos\u00e9 Graziano to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). Graziano was elected to the post in June.<\/p>\n
Patriota praised the recent constitutional reforms promoted by Moroccan king Mohammed VI, as well as the country\u2019s efforts in the presidency of the G77, the group of 77 developing nations established in 1964 to discuss the fight against global poverty, among other themes. The G77 currently includes 132 nations, including China. The Moroccan minister also supported the Brazilian call for a permanent seat in the UN Security Council. After visiting Morocco, minister Patriota should head on to Cape Verde, still on Monday.<\/p>\n
