S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 Brazilian coffee exports generated US$ 777.53 million in revenues in August, the highest figure for the month in the last five years, according to information supplied by the Brazilian Coffee Exporter Council (Cecaf\u00e9) Tuesday (6th). The total is 61.6% higher than in August 2010.<\/p>\n
A total of 2,867,513 bags (60 kilograms each) were shipped, the highest volume for the month since 1990, according to the Cecaf\u00e9. When compared with August of last year, however, the volume shipped grew by 1.9%, which points to rising product prices on the international market. <\/p>\n
From January to August, Brazilian exports of coffee US$ 5.3 billion, a 71% increase compared with the same period of 2010. The figure is equivalent to 21.3 million bags, which represents an increase of 8% using the same basis of comparison.<\/p>\n
The leading target markets during the first eight months of the year were Europe (54%), North America (24%) and Asia (17%). In terms of countries, the main targets were the United States, Germany, Italy, Belgium and Japan.<\/p>\n
Exports to the Arab countries generated US$ 148.6 million in revenues, 37.46% more than from January to August last year. The volume shipped was 792,457 bags, a figure 1.1% higher than in the same period of last year. The Arab world buys 4% of all coffee shipped abroad from Brazil, according to the Cecaf\u00e9.<\/p>\n
