S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 The fourth edition of the \u201cIdeias\u201d workshop, organized annually by Lar S\u00edrio Pr\u00f3-Inf\u00e2ncia, discussed on Friday (29) the challenges faced by the third sector, especially the importance of measuring and accounting for the impact of initiatives carried out by social assistance institutions. With the theme \u201c<\/em>Assessing Productive Inclusion in Practice: Connecting Youth, The Market, and Opportunities\u201d<\/em>, the event was held at the headquarters of the Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce<\/strong> (ABCC<\/a>) in S\u00e3o Paulo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Executive Manager of Instituto Cury, Luciana Kamimura gave a lecture on the size, challenges, and strategies of the third sector, which employs 4.7 million people and moves over BRL 200 billion (USD 37 billion) per year in Brazil. She also highlighted the importance of measuring and distinguishing between results and social impacts.<\/p>\n\n\n

\u201cImpact measures whether an initiative has led to an increase in income or a change in a person\u2019s quality of life,\u201d she said. \u201cImpact may not result in financial value but in value for society,\u201d Kamimura added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Measuring the impact of initiatives is a challenge that Lar S\u00edrio Pr\u00f3-Inf\u00e2ncia began to face through questions the institution itself raised to assess the effectiveness of its actions, said the organization\u2019s superintendent, Elaine Bueno, during the panel \u201cChallenges, Practices, and Indicators in Preparing Youth for the Job Market.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This panel was moderated by Ideal Social CEO Rachel Carneiro and featured the participation of Elaine Bueno; Alessandra Frisso, Executive Director of H2R Insights & Trends and member of the Board at the ABCC; Marcos Muniz, Government Relations Manager at Liga Solid\u00e1ria; Paulo Sergio Franzosi, Regional Manager of Sebrae Leste, which promotes the competitiveness of small businesses; and Rita Puosso, instructor of Professional Training courses at Senac SP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cLar S\u00edrio is 102 years old, and when comparing this to the lifespan of social assistance organizations, talking about evaluation is very recent\u2014a major challenge,\u201d Bueno said. In 2019, the institution began measuring some indicators, an initiative that has evolved year by year. \u201cEvaluation starts long before the results are delivered. It begins in the planning stage,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To quantify the institution\u2019s actions, Lar S\u00edrio relies on a partnership with the company H2R. During the same panel, Alessandra Frisso recalled that the invitation to participate in Lar S\u00edrio came from its former chairman and former ABCC President Salim Taufic Schahin, who passed away on August 21.<\/p>\n\n\n

She highlighted the importance of combining education and work in the training of young people as a means of promoting social equality. \u201cAnd I mean equalizing the living conditions of the very rich with the very poor. Education is the main axis to achieving this. Work is the other,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The partnership with Lar S\u00edrio is still in its early stages and will be implemented in phases. It plans to monitor the development of children and young people supported by Lar S\u00edrio until their entry into the job market and translate this process into numbers. Frisso told ANBA that, based on metrics and statistical data, it will be possible to improve the methods and support offered to around 1,000 children and adolescents assisted by the institution in S\u00e3o Paulo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The workshop was opened by the president of the ABCC, William Adib Dib Jr., who noted that the two institutions share a long history. Lar S\u00edrio was founded 102 years ago by Arab immigrants, some of whom were ancestors of Dib himself and of Arab-origin entrepreneurs. Dib serves as legal director at Lar S\u00edrio. The audience of around 90 people was made up mostly of members from social assistance institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
