S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 The Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce <\/b>will promote the lecture \u201cIslamic Law and International Right,\u201d with layers Rabih Nasser and Salem Nasser, at 9:00 am on October 6. Enrolment is open.<\/p>\n
Rabih and Salem are partners in a law firm that operates in the trade and international investment fields, business consulting, international law, and arbitrage. Both are professors at the Law School of the Get\u00falio Vargas foundation in S\u00e3o Paulo (FGV). Salem is also a member of the Committee on International Law of the International Law Association, based in London, United Kingdom.<\/p>\n
Aside from being partners, the two are cousins. Although he is a descendent of Lebanese, Rabih claims that his origin had no influence on the choice of his line of work. He has devised contracts between Brazilian and Arab companies based in countries such as Jordan, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Libya and Lebanon.
\u201cIn many Arab countries, the legal system is influenced by religion,\u201d says Rabih. \u201cThese rules end up influencing companies\u2019 business dealings. Thus, Brazilian companies may need to adapt products and contracts to abide to these countries\u2019 rules,\u201d the specialist adds.<\/p>\n
He claims that the influence of religion in the legal system varies from country to country. \u201cThis influence may affect everything that concerns the financing system, such as the funding of foreign trade operations and payment conditions. These issues are relevant to all sectors,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n
The talk will also approach contract drafts, which may be elaborated by either the Brazilian or the foreign party. \u201cThere are a variety of rules that may apply to a contract, ranging from international law to domestic law in each country,\u201d says Rabih. The event will also discuss safe contracts, and execution for breach of obligations, among other topics.<\/p>\n
