During the period, there were 157 acquisitions of Brazilian companies by foreign ones, as against 125 during the same period of last year. The figure represents a 26% increase.<\/p>\n<p> Considering all types of mergers and acquisitions in Brazil, the survey shows that transactions reached an all-time high from January to September. There were a total of 606 deals, 14% more than in the same period of 2010, when 531 operations took place.<\/p>\n<p> The highlight was transactions were Brazilian companies acquiring other Brazilian companies: 293 deals this year, as against 244 in the last one. \u201cThis quarter, there was an increase in the number of mergers led by Brazilian companies,\u201d says Luiz Motta, KPMG\u2019s Mergers and Acquisitions partner in Brazil.<\/p>\n<p> There was a 10% decline in the rate of internationalization of Brazilian companies, as there were 47 acquisitions of foreign companies by Brazilian companies, as against 52 from January to September last year.<\/p>\n<p> There was also a decline in Brazilian companies\u2019 acquisitions of foreign companies\u2019 operations in Brazil, at 21 deals, as against 27 in 2010.
