The company emphasized that portable chargers are not allowed in checked baggage, though.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>New rules on Emirates flights<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Among the regulations effective on Wednesday are: passengers may carry a portable charger with less than 100 watt-hours; portable chargers may not be used to charge personal devices on board; portable chargers may not be charged using the aircraft\u2019s power supply; all portable chargers allowed for transport must display information about their available capacity; portable chargers cannot be placed in the overhead bin and must be kept in the seat pocket or in a bag under the seat in front of you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Emirates reports that there has been a \u201csignificant increase\u201d in the number of passengers using these devices and consequently a rise in incidents involving lithium batteries in the aviation industry. In certain cases, portable chargers can overheat, explode, catch fire, and release toxic gases.
