S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 The first edition of Mauritania\u2019s Nouakchott International Book Fair is running until next Sunday (26). The event, organized by the country\u2019s Ministry of Culture, opened on Monday (20) with a visit from local authorities. According to Mauritania\u2019s news agency AMI, one of the event\u2019s goals is to \u201crevive\u201d the place of books and reading in society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Another goal of the event, according to AMI, is to encourage cultural communication between Mauritania\u2019s Arab and African communities. Located in North Africa, the country primarily uses Arabic and French and has a Muslim majority. The Minister of Culture, Arts, Communication, and Relations with Parliament, and government spokesperson, El Houssein Ould Meddou, also said this is the country\u2019s main cultural event of the year and aims to serve as a space for knowledge exchange among writers, researchers, and publishers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
More than 80 publishers from various countries, including Qatar and Jordan, are participating in the fair. The program includes book signings, launches, and roundtable discussions with authors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
