S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 A bust of Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer was unveiled at the entrance of the Rachid Karami International Fair (RKIF) in Tripoli, Lebanon. Breaking from traditional bust styles, the sculpture is a contemporary interpretation by Lebanese artist Sandra Sahyoun and was inaugurated on Wednesday (26). The fair\u2019s architectural complex was designed by Niemeyer in the 1960s.<\/p>\n\n\n

According to the Brazilian Embassy in Lebanon, the sculpture was made possible with support from Brazil\u2019s Ministry of Foreign Affairs as part of the celebrations of 80 years of diplomatic relations between Brazil and Lebanon. It reflects the embassy\u2019s efforts to bring about the revitalization of the fair, which is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The inauguration was organized by the Brazilian Embassy in collaboration with RKIF and the Niemeyer Heritage Foundation\u2014Tripoli (NHFT), in an event sponsored by and attended by Lebanon\u2019s Minister of Economy and Trade, Amer Bisat. The ceremony brought together ambassadors and diplomats, Lebanese public officials, and representatives from Tripoli\u2019s cultural and academic sectors, as well as from other regions of the country. Brazil\u2019s Ambassador to Lebanon, Tarc\u00edsio Costa, was among the attendees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
