S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 Tripoli, the capital of Libya, will get a monument for peace: \u201cUnhate Dove,\u201d a pigeon-shaped sculpture covered with over 15,000 ammunition shells. The work was donated by the Colors magazine, a publication of the Italian clothing brand Benetton.<\/p>\n
The sculpture will be officially donated to the Libyan capital on Saturday, December 24th. The date was chosen because it is the Libyan independence day, which is being celebrated for the first time in 42 years. <\/p>\n
The work was created by Fabrica, Benetton\u2019s communication research centre. The shells used in the sculpture were collected in conflicted areas in different parts of the world.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe official handing-over of the dove is the UNHATE Foundation’s first act, both concrete and symbolic," said Alessandro Benetton, executive deputy chairman of Benetton Group, according to a statement issued by the company. "Our aim in creating the Foundation is to oppose the culture of hate.
