{"id":402519,"date":"2026-01-30T13:53:35","date_gmt":"2026-01-30T16:53:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/anba.com.br\/?p=402519"},"modified":"2026-01-30T13:53:46","modified_gmt":"2026-01-30T16:53:46","slug":"grand-egyptian-museum-past-and-present-live","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/anba.com.br\/en\/grand-egyptian-museum-past-and-present-live\/","title":{"rendered":"Grand Egyptian Museum: Past and present \u2018live\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 Partially operational for a few years, but officially opened in November 2025, the Grand Egyptian Museum (<a href=\"https:\/\/gem.eg\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">GEM<\/a>) showcases to its visitors giant statues, artifacts that tell the story of the civilization, and archaeological finds that span seven millennia of history. One of the largest archaeological museums in the world, the GEM itself is also a work of art and history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The building\u2019s exterior design resembles a ship, and its structures reference pyramids. After all, the GEM is located about a kilometer from the Great Pyramid of Khufu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Its collection includes, among other things, an 11-meter-tall statue of Pharaoh Ramesses II, the third pharaoh of the 19<sup>th<\/sup> dynasty, who died in 1213\u202fB.C. Also on display is the collection from Pharaoh Tutankhamun\u2019s tomb (1341\u202fB.C.\u202f\u2013\u202f1323\u202fB.C.). That\u2019s about 500,000 square meters of history and culture, expected to welcome eight million visitors each year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Telling history through stories is one of the highlights of this museum. That\u2019s why, since the end of 2025, it has been dedicated to restoring live before visitors\u2019 eyes a 4,600-year-old find: a solar boat of King Khufu. Measuring about 42 meters, it will be restored over the next four years. It is not the only one on display.
