The movies address the political and social scenario and the reasons for the popular uprisings in countries such as Egypt, Tunisia and Yemen.<\/p>\n<p> The event is a part of the 1st Bras\u00edlia International Arts Festival, which also includes music, fine arts, dancing, theatre and circus. The exhibit will take place at Cine Bras\u00edlia and will open with a lecture from Reginaldo Nasser, an International Relations professor at the S\u00e3o Paulo Pontifical Catholic University (PUC-SP). He will give a presentation on the topics dealt with in the movies. <\/p>\n<p> The exhibit will include short, medium-length and feature films. The curators are Arlene Clemesha, a professor at the University of S\u00e3o Paulo (USP), and Marcia Camargos, a writer and journalist. Most films are recent, made between 2009 and 2011. There are productions from Egypt, Qatar, Yemen, Palestine, the United Arab Emirates and Syria; and from non-Arab countries such as Iran, Canada, Norway, the United States, Belgium and the United Kingdom. | <\/p>\n<p> The more recent works include the Egyptian \u201c18 Days,\u201d by ten different directors. The film depicts the downfall of former president Hosni Mubarak, showing ten stories about the uprising that were either heard or created by the directors and actors themselves. <\/p>\n<p> \u201cThe Artisan,\u201d a Yemeni film made in 2011, is about a bomb maker who has an experience that leads him to question his line of work. In \u201cCairo Exit,\u201d shot in Egypt in 2010, director Hesham Issawi gives an account of contemporary life in the capital of the country, through the story of two lovers and the social taboos that permeate Egyptian society.
