As early as next April, the Arab League\u2019s engagement with the Brazilian government will intensify with a political consultation meeting. The most recent one took place in Cairo, Egypt, in 2025, and the next will be held in Bras\u00edlia, with the presence of a delegation from the Arab organization. Political consultation meetings are high-level diplomatic gatherings between representatives of countries or between a country and an organization to exchange information, align positions and strengthen cooperation on bilateral, regional and global issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the political context, Alzeben recalled Brazil\u2019s support for Arab causes. \u201cThe support of the Brazilian government and of Brazil in general for the Palestinian cause is very clear, the truly honorable stance of President Luiz In\u00e1cio Lula da Silva, both at the popular level and at the official level. It is very much appreciated and a courageous position that we greatly admire,\u201d said the new head of the Arab League Mission in Brazil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Arab League is headquartered in Cairo and brings together the 22 Arab countries. \u201cThe League of Arab States has played a very important role in coordination among all Arab countries since its founding in 1945,\u201d Alzeben explains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On March 22, the organization will mark its 81st<\/sup> anniversary, but due to the current situation in the Middle East, with the conflict between the United States and Israel and Iran affecting Arab countries in the region, Alzeben will hold a press conference with journalists instead of a celebration. He says he hopes the war will end soon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The diplomat says his work at the Arab League will be political and cultural but will also involve helping foster economic and financial ties between Brazil and the Arab countries. \u201cWithin our limitations as an international organization and not as a country,\u201d he said. Alzeben notes that the Arab countries are Brazil\u2019s third-largest trading partner and that annual trade between them totals USD 33 billion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The diplomat recalls that economic cooperation between Brazil and the Arab countries is already increasing but says he will work together with the Arab diplomatic missions in Brazil\u2014Bras\u00edlia currently hosts 18 of them\u2014to further expand this exchange.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He believes the network of relationships he has built with several Latin American countries can help in his mission at the Arab League.
