S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 Businesswoman Vania Oliveira has always been mad about handbags. From the time she was a model, she has known how to bet on the accessory as an element to change a woman\u2019s appearance. And that is why she decided to abandon her diploma in Physical Education to become a fashion entrepreneur, 15 years ago, when she opened Tai Dai Handbags, in Rio de Janeiro. With a showroom in Ipanema, in the city of Rio de Janeiro, the company now sells to Japan and New Zealand. Investing in the foreign market, in fact, is a target for 2012.<\/p>\n
Tai Dai products are made out of raw material like leather, canvas, thread (crochet), jute and even string, among other possibilities. And that is using the most varied of styles and colours. \u201cHandbags are a strong point in dress, they are a fashion reference,\u201d said Vania. \u201cWe produce options in tones like red, green and mustard,\u201d she added. <\/p>\n
Among the novelties en route she mentions a line with stylized prints with images of the Marvellous City. In all, brand releases three collections a year: spring\/summer, autumn\/winter and high summer. All products are idealised and designed by Vania, who outsources production.<\/p>\n
According to the entrepreneur, apart from investment in differentiation of products, the largest motivator for sales within and outside Brazil was participation in fairs and events. This is the case, for example, with Rio \u00e0 Porter, the business salon of Fashion Rio (the fashion week in Rio de Janeiro) and Francal, a shoe and accessory fair in S\u00e3o Paulo. <\/p>\n
It was exhibiting at Francal, in 2009, in fact, that Tai Dai closed its first exports. \u201cA client from Japan liked our bags and placed an order then and there,\u201d explained Vania.<\/p>\n
Regarding plans for greater orders from foreign buyers, she explains that the Arabs are welcome. \u201cWe are at their disposal, and it would be interesting to sell to these nations,\u201d she says. \u201cIn fact, we may adapt our products and produce according to the demand of each country,\u201d explained the businesswoman, who is already awaiting new contracts within Brazil and abroad.<\/p>\n
