Bras\u00edlia \u2013 The secretary general of the United Nations (UN) Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20), Sha Zukang, said on Friday (9) that the international crisis may delay implementation of the green economy in some countries.<\/p>\n
"We have not yet managed to escape the shadow of financial crises. The transition to a green economy, mainly in countries living difficulties, should require a greater engagement, very strong, and more help from developed nations. It is an international question that may create a delay in implementation of the green economy,\u201d said Zukang, at a press conference at the Ministry of Environment. He is visiting the country to discuss logistics for the Rio+20, to take place in June.<\/p>\n
To the secretary general, the conference may fall to the background for leaders of some countries due to internal affairs. As examples he mentioned the electoral process in the United States. "In an election year, the great political figureheads are too concerned with the election to focus on any other topic. But I tell them not to worry. Sustainability is a matter that should unite opposition and situation. Sustainability is the future we want,\u201d he added. Up to the moment, 79 delegations have confirmed presence.<\/p>\n
