Nova Delhi (India) and Bras\u00edlia \u2013 Brazilian president Dilma Rousseff defended on Wednesday (28), in New Delhi, India, reforms in the Security Council of the United Nations (UN) and in international financial institutions, like the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank. Rousseff said that Brazil and India want a \u201cmore democratic\u201d international system.<\/p>\n
\u201cBrazil and India share the same desire of building a more democratic international system, with roots in international law, turned to cooperation and peace,\u201d pointed out the Brazilian president, who received an honoris causa doctorate from the University of New Delhi.<\/p>\n
The heads of both countries, members of the Bric \u2013 Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa \u2013 are calling for more permanent seats in the UN Security Council and in international financial institutions, like the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank. To the Brics, the solid and growing economies of the countries in the bloc should be considered for these suggested changes in international organisations.<\/p>\n
The president also added that Brazil supports peaceful negotiations in the search for agreements in regions in crisis, like Syrian and Afghanistan, without interference of forces, as well as foreign integration. According to her, Brazil and India are contrary to unilateral and authoritarian actions. <\/p>\n
\u201c[Brazil and India] reject unilateral actions and doctrines that emphasize the use of force,\u201d said Rousseff. According to the president, Brazilians and Indians are favourable to the search for consensus and multilateralism.<\/p>\n
The Brazilian president arrived in India on Tuesday (27), and she will remain there up to Saturday (31). She is going to participate in the 4th Bric summit. The meeting includes the prime minister of India, Manmohan Singh, and presidents Jacob Zuma (South Africa), Hu Jintao (China), and Dmitri Medvedev (Russia).<\/p>\n
