Rio de Janeiro \u2013 Natural gas consumption increased by 6.83% in the first quarter of this year compared with the same period of 2011. The figures were culled from a survey issued this Wednesday (2nd) by the Brazilian Association of Piped Gas Distributing Companies (Abeg\u00e1s).<\/p>\n
The survey also points out that in March, average daily piped gas consumption reached 50.8 million cubic metres, 13.7% higher than in the same month of last year.<\/p>\n
After a period of stable consumption volume, sales of natural gas for automobile fuelling purposes increased again, by 2.72% from February to March, by 3.79% March-on-March, and 1.28% in the first quarter of this year compared with the same period of 2011.<\/p>\n
In March, Southeast Brazil remained the leading natural gas consuming region in the country, at 35.4 million cubic metres per day. Next come the Northeast, at 8 million cubic metres, and the South, at 4.5 million.<\/p>\n
