The figures issued this Thursday (10th) by the National Electric System Operator (Operador Nacional do Sistema Elétrico – ONS) also reveal that over the last 12 months, consumption was up 3.6% as against the preceding period.

The increase in April was driven by industry, according to the ONS’ Consumption Forecasting and Follow-Up Management. According to the Getulio Vargas Foundation, the Brazilian industry’s use of installed capacity reached 83.9% in April. It was the highest level since July 2011 (84.1%).

In comparison with March 2012, energy consumption saw a 3.5% decline. Seasonal factors and mild temperatures, which reduced the use of refrigerating equipment, explained the drop in consumption, according to the ONS.

The Northeast Subsystem had the highest April-on-April consumption increase (8.5(%), chiefly because of a pickup in economic activity.

*Translated by Gabriel Pomerancblum

Power generation increased by 5.3% in April 2012 compared with April 2011, mostly due to industrial demand.

[91

0":"post-41439","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","6":"category-economy
Power generation increased by 5.3% in April 2012 compared with April 2011, mostly due to industrial demand.
["GET
