S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 The Jordanian diplomat Malek Eid Otalla Twal, who served as ambassador of the Arab country in Bras\u00edlia between 2014 and 2019, passed away last Tuesday (4). Since November 2021, Twal had led the Arab League Mission in Madrid, Spain. The Mission issued a statement mourning the loss of its leader, who served his country and diplomacy throughout his career with \u201cdistinction.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The holder of a PhD in International Law and Relations from Paris 1 Panth\u00e9on-Sorbonne University, Twal was sworn in at the Brazilian embassy in 2014, following stints at diplomatic offices in Germany, France, Russia, Austria, and Italy. Up until 2019 in Brazil, Twal worked to advance diplomatic and commercial relations. During his term, the then-Brazilian minister of Foreign Affairs Aloysio Nunes Ferreira visited Jordan, Brazilian and Jordanian authorities paid mutual visits, and connections were fostered among businesspeople from both countries, including via events hosted by the Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Arab Chamber issued a statement of condolence on its social media channels. \u201cThe Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce is deeply saddened by the passing of the Jordanian diplomat Malek Eid Otalla Twal. Twal was the ambassador of Jordan to Brazil from 2014 to 2019, during which time he helped build relations between the two countries. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and all of those who had the privilege of knowing him,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In honor of the diplomat, the Arab League delegation in the capital of Spain concluded: \u201cThe memory of your excellency ambassador Malek Twal will live among those who are a part of the League of Arab States Mission in Madrid, and his abnegation and dedication to fulfilling his mission will remain a source of recognition and pride.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
