Compared with the second quarter of 2025, gross domestic product rose 2%. Over the four-quarter period, GDP grew 1.9%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The data was released Tuesday (1) by statistics agency IBGE. According to the institute, GDP reached BRL 3.4 trillion (USD 655 billion) in the second quarter. In the first half, the economy grew 1.9% from the first half of 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Focus survey, conducted by the Central Bank (BC) among financial market institutions and released Monday (31), projects GDP growth of 1.92% for 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Components<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>GDP can be measured from the production side, which looks at the performance of economic activities, or the expenditure side, which covers spending and investment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the production side, agriculture led growth, rising 2.8% from the first to the second quarter and 6.2% over 12 months. Industry grew 0.1% quarter on quarter and 1.4% over 12 months. Services, the economy\u2019s largest employer, grew 0.2% quarter on quarter and 1.7% over 12 months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gross fixed capital formation, a measure of investment, grew 1.2% in the quarter. On the demand side, government consumption rose 0.4%, while household consumption fell 0.4%.
