According to figures issued today (2nd) by the National Electric System Operator (ONS, in the Portuguese acronym), 57,700 average megawatts (MW) were generated in July. <\/p>\n<p> The decline as against June was mostly a consequence of the \u201cslowdown of the industrial sector, due to uncertainty regarding the international economic crisis scenario,\u201d according to the ONS.<\/p>\n<p> The sharpest decline in power generation took place in the Southeast-Midwest Subsystem, down 1%. The Northeast and North subsystems were down 0.9% and 0.3%, respectively. The South Subsystem generated the same amount of power as in June. <\/p>\n<p> As against July 2011, however, there was a 2.2% increase in power generation.
