Bras\u00edlia \u2013 The Brazilian government is preparing new measures regarding ports and airports concessions, according to the Logistics and Planning Company (EPL) president Bernardo Figueiredo. The plan\u2019s details are still under discussion by ministers, technicians and specialists. In the meantime, a delegation of officials is travelling to Europe to collect information on successful schemes.<\/p>\n
Figueiredo said a delegation will travel tomorrow to Germany, Belgium and France, comprising the ministers Gleisi Hoffmann (Chief of Staff), Jos\u00e9 Le\u00f4nidas Cristino (Ports), Wagner Bitencourt (Civil Aviation Secretariat) and the chairman of the Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES), Luciano Coutinho. \u201cWe will look for good references,\u201d said Figueiredo, referring to concession schemes.<\/p>\n
On July 15, the Brazilian president Dilma Rousseff launched the concession plan for roads and railways, which provides for 133 billion reals (US$ 65.4 billion) to be invested in 25 years. The Road and Railway Logistics Investment Program launched by the president will encourage the private initiative to participate more actively in Brazilian infrastructure investment. Concessions will cover 7,500 kilometres of roads and 10,000 kilometres of railways.<\/p>\n
Of the 133 billion reals, 79.5 billion reals (US$ 39.1 billion) will be spent in the first five years. Roads will receive 42 billion reals (US$ 20.6 billion) and railways will get 91 billion reals (US$ 44.8 billion). According to Transport minister Paulo S\u00e9rgio Passos, main roads will be duplicated and the country\u2019s railway grid will be expanded.<\/p>\n
