Last year, US$ 1.791 billion were spent in September. Year-to-date as of late September, spending reached US$ 16.339 billion, as against US$ 16.181 billion in the same period of 2011.<\/p>\n<p> The head of the Central Bank\u2019s Economic Department, Tulio Maciel, says Brazilian overseas spending has remained virtually level with last year, at a time in which the dollar is appreciated against the Brazilian real. \u201cThe account is highly sensitive to the exchange rate, and it has a strong influence in interrupting the growth in spending during travels,\u201d he explains.<\/p>\n<p> Foreigners spent US$ 441 million in Brazil in September.
