S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 In the midst of large footwear companies based in the city of Franca, in the interior of the state of S\u00e3o Paulo, Cal\u00e7ados Ilustre, an enterprise with 45 employees, sells its products to ten countries, including Algeria, an Arab country in North Africa. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe have a customer there who operates as a distributor and store owner,\u201d says Lu\u00eds Fernando Martins, the company\u2019s commercial manager. Sales to Algeria started five years via a trader who takes care of exports and foreign clients. <\/p>\n
Cal\u00e7ados Ilustre manufactures men\u2019s shoes exclusively. \u201cWe have a full line of products, all leather-made,\u201d says Martins. Models include formal, sports, and casual shoes, the latter of which are exported to Algeria. \u201cTheir market is highly tradition-oriented, they only buy the basics,\u201d says the executive.<\/p>\n
The company makes 400 pairs of shoes daily, of which 20% are shipped overseas. The Algerian client places three orders per year, averaging at 2,000 pairs each. \u201cWe export to ten countries, and our main market is Colombia,\u201d says Martins. United States and France are also among the company\u2019s leading buyers.<\/p>\n
Cal\u00e7ados Ilustre shoes are sold under the brand Youth Class. The enterprise does not participate in foreign fairs, but is interested in attracting international clients. \u201cWe are open to doing business. We already have some [new] contacts. We are open to new markets as well,\u201d says the commercial manager. <\/p>\n
