The facility will receive solely passengers of A380 aircraft, the largest in the world, operated by Emirates Airline. The first flight took place at 2:30 pm today, local time, bound to the United Kingdom\u2019s Heathrow Airport.<\/p>\n<p> The new wing is being opened in phases. Today, only four out of 20 gates began operating. \u201cWe believe that this approach of gradual transition will enable us and all our partners to ensure smooth operations and help us to deliver on our customer service commitment,\u201d said Dubai Airports CEO Paul Griffiths in a statement released to the press.<\/p>\n<p> The Airbus A380 has two decks and can carry up to 517 passengers.
