S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 Scenes from Jordan captured by the photographer Thierry Rios will feature in the show Al-Urdunn, due to open on January 12th at the ArtEsta\u00e7\u00e3o culture house, in the city of Rio Grande, state of Rio Grande do Sul. Urdunn is the Arabic word for Jordan. <\/p>\n
The show presents 30 pictures taken by Rios during a trip to the Arab country in October last year. \u201cI really enjoyed walking along the road and stopping wherever I wanted to. There, you get to see lots of sheep herds. There is also the issue of prayer. One of the photographs shows a man on his knees by the side of the road, praying,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n
Rios, aged 63, is a civil engineer, but photography has been his hobby since 1972. With a camera in his hand, he has been to countries such as Morocco, Turkey, Cuba, United Arab Emirates, India, Mexico, Chile, Canada, United States and Italy, among others.<\/p>\n
Regarding Jordan, he also says his attention was grabbed by the garments of women, the Bedouin camps, and especially the beauties of the Wadi Rum Desert. \u201cI have a penchant for black and white photography, but you just cannot depict Jordan without showing the colours of the desert,\u201d he says. <\/p>\n
In Jordan, Rios travelled to also include Amman, Jerash, Petra, Aqaba, and the Dead Sea.<\/p>\n
