S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 The Dubai World Central (DWC) airport had a cargo throughput of 219,092 tonnes in 2012. According to managing company Dubai Airports, the figure is up 144% from 2011. It was the second full year of activity for DWC, an entrepreneurial, industrial and logistical facility under development around Jebel Ali\u2019s new Al Maktoum Airport, which already includes a port and a free zone. A road links the airport to the port. <\/p>\n
According to Dubai Airports, an average of 2012 18,258 tonnes of cargo were carried each month. In 2011, the average was 7,477 tonnes. During that same period, road cargo transport amounted to 44,052 tonnes, up 20% from the preceding year. According to Dubai Airports figures, air traffic was up 99% in 2012 from 2011 to 16,317, as against 8,198 in the preceding year.<\/p>\n
The president of Dubai Airports, Paul Griffiths, said the airport is growing fast and should continue in years to come. \u201cThat emergence is set to continue as airlines take advantage of the airport\u2019s facilities, road feeder service to Dubai International and bonded link to the Jebel Ali port,\u201d said Griffiths. Dubai Airports believes that by 2015 the two Dubai airports will move 3 million tonnes of cargo. <\/p>\n
In addition to the Al Maktoum Airport, Dubai has its International Airport, which received 57.6 million passengers and moved 2.27 million tonnes of cargo in 2012.<\/p>\n
In 2012, 30 airlines operated at the Dubai World Central and this year another eight should use Dubai as a cargo distribution hub: Ukraine\u2019s ZetAvia; Russia\u2019s Abakan Aiva; Azerbaijan\u2019s Silk Way Airlines; Iran\u2019s Iran Aseman; Pakistan\u2019s Vision Air; Saudi Arabia\u2019s Saudi Arabian; and Georgia\u2019s Sakavia Services; and Khalton Air.<\/p>\n
