Rio de Janeiro- The secretary for Oil, Gas and Renewable Resources at Brazil\u2019s Ministry of Mines and Energy, Marco Ant\u00f4nio Martins Almeida, has said reserves in the pre-salt area, solely in the field Bloco Mar\u00edtimo Bacia de Santos 8 (BM-S-8), are expected to amount to 1 billion barrels of oil. To Almeida, the findings that are being made change all expectations, because the volumes are higher.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere are areas that have been discovered but not assessed yet. I have several areas that have already been divided into lots, but have not been tendered or discovered. They have been assessed, however, and they have a huge potential; these are very significant areas,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The secretary believes there must be other areas similar to the BM-S-8 in the Santos Basin. \u201cThere have to be many more of these structures along the Santos Basin than we had originally forecasted. What I mean is there is a huge potential in this area of the pre-salt. The potential will be developed over time. As time passes, we have more and more pleasant surprises. At least it has been thus so far, and we hope it will stay this way,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n
This Tuesday (12th) at a hotel in Copacabana, in the south side of Rio, the secretary attended an oil industry conference organized by the British government\u2019s international trade and foreign investment promotion department.<\/p>\n
