São Paulo – Last Monday evening (1st) in Muscat, Brazil and Oman signed their first-ever diplomatic agreements, during a visit of Brazilian vice president Michel Temer to the country in the Arabian Peninsula. Three treaties were signed. One creates bilateral political consultation mechanisms, the other establishes the Brazil-Oman Joint Committee, and the third is for sports cooperation, according to information from the Vice President’s Office. <\/p>\n

“These are the first legal instruments signed by Brazil and Oman after establishing diplomatic relations. The joint committee agreement is an ‘umbrella’ agreement on which we shall build all aspects of our bilateral relations,” said the director of the Middle East and Central Asia Department of Brazil’s Foreign Office, Carlos Ceglia, according to the Vice Presidency website. <\/p>\n
The Brazilian ambassador to Muscat, Mitzi Gurgel, added that she hopes the treaties will increase “the flow of exchange in commerce, culture and technical cooperation between the two countries.” According to Temer, “there is an extraordinary awareness of modernity in Oman, not only in physical and material development, but also in culture and society.”<\/p>\n
Temer travelled alongside businessmen and representatives of sectorial organizations such as the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce<\/strong> president, Marcelo Sallum, and CEO, Michel Alaby. Also on Monday, the Chamber signed agreements with the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, another for cooperation between the two organizations, and yet another establishing the Brazil-Oman Business Council.<\/p>\n This Tuesday (2nd), the last day of the trip, the vice president paid a visit to mining company Vale’s facilities in Sohar, Oman, which include a iron ore pellet plant and a maritime terminal.
