São Paulo – Brazil’s minister of Sports, Aldo Rebelo, has said this Thursday (11th) that work at the stadiums in the 12 2014 FIFA World Cup host cities is at least 50% completed. Rebelo gave the assessment after visiting the site of Arena Corinthians, aka Itaquerão, in São Paulo, which will host the opening ceremony of the Cup in Brazil. <\/p>\n
Rebelo also said that in addition to the three stadiums which have already been delivered – Arena Fonte Nova, in Salvador; Mineirão, in Belo Horizonte; and Castelão, in Fortaleza, three others are at advanced stages of construction because they will host the Confederations Cup, due in June this year. They are: Maracanã, in Rio de Janeiro, with delivery due in late April; Estádio Nacional de Brasília, due for delivery in April; and Arena Pernambuco, in Recife, scheduled to be delivered in May.<\/p>\n
The other stadiums, according to the minister, should be completed by December this year, and are more than 50% done. “We have a safe schedule regarding key infrastructure for the 2014 World Cup and stadiums will be delivered ahead of time. Urban mobility works are also on time, and virtually all are due for completion in 2013,” he said. <\/p>\n
