If the projection announced this Monday (3rd) proves true, the industry will see a 67% increase from 2012’s US$ 7.6 billion. The reasons for the increase include lower oil prices, higher occupancy rates, and increased passenger volume.

During the Iata annual meeting in Capetown, South Africa, CEO Tony Tyler said airlines are not increasing the number of seats available, and therefore the average occupancy rate is on the rise, and is expected to close 2013 at 80.3%.

According to Iata projections, this year, the Brent oil barrel, traded in London, should average at US$ 108. In 2012, it averaged at US$ 111.8. The Association has also informed that in 2013, the industry should carry more than 3 billion passengers for the first time in history. The total number of passengers is expected to be 3.13 billion.

The 240 Iata-affiliated airlines, which account for 84% of global air traffic, should post combined revenues of US$ 711 billion. Despite the industry growth forecasts, Iata has warned that the profit of affiliated airlines will be equivalent to 1.8% of revenues. In 2010, profit accounted for 3.3% of revenues.

Airlines from all regions should see profit in 2013. Carriers in the Asia-Pacific region should post a combined profit of US$ 4.6 billion; North American carriers, US$ 4.4 billion; European carriers, US$ 1.6 billion; Middle Eastern carriers, US$ 1.5 billion; Latin American carriers, US$ 600 million; and African carriers, US$ 100 million.

Translated by Gabriel Pomerancblum

The International Air Transport Association estimates that companies in the industry will see a combined US$ 12.7 billion in net profit this year, up 67% from 2012.

[91

0":"post-44920","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","6":"category-economy
The International Air Transport Association estimates that companies in the industry will see a combined US$ 12.7 billion in net profit this year, up 67% from 2012.
["GET
