São Paulo – Machinery and equipment industry revenues stood at R$ 7.2 billion in May, up 8.9% from April. From May 2012, the figure is down 1.7%. From January through May 2013, the industry posted R$ 30.8 billion (US$ 13.8 billion) in revenues, down 7.6% from January through May 2012. The figures have been released this Wednesday (26th) by the Brazilian Machinery and Equipment Industry Association (Abimaq).<\/p>\n
“The good performance in May confirms the resumption of revenues. Year-to-date, the amount was lower than in the same period of 2012, a decline which is partly owed to reduced exports,” according to a press release from Abimaq. <\/p>\n
The industry exported the equivalent of US$ 1.03 billion in May, up 14.1% from April. From January through May, however, exports amounted to US$ 4.4 billion, down 16.4% from the same period in 2012. <\/p>\n
In May this year, US$ 2.65 billion worth of machinery and equipment were imported, down 4.3% from April. From January through May, imports stood at US$ 13.2 billion, up 1.5% from the same period in 2012. <\/p>\n
