São Paulo – Last Wednesday (17th), the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI), in the United Arab Emirates, announced that export and re-export operations of its affiliated companies were up 7% in the first half this year from the first half of 2012. The information was released by the Emirates News Agency (WAM) <\/em>.<\/p>\n According to the DCCI, export and re-export activities by its affiliate companies amounted to 145.2 billion dirhams (US$ 39.5 billion at current exchange rates) in the first half of 2013, as against 136.2 billion dirhams (US$ 37 billion) in the first half of 2012.<\/p>\n The highest monthly figure was recorded in May, when operations stood at 25.4 billion dirhams (US$ 6.9 billion), while January saw the lowest figure at 23.5 billion dirhams (US$ 6.4 billion). Dubai is an international trade hub which ships out both local products and goods imported from other countries. <\/p>\n In the first half this year, the DCCI issued 418,000 certificates of origin, up 12.2% from the same period in 2012. Issuance peaked in May and bottomed out in February.<\/p>\n According to WAM<\/em>, 7,153 companies have become affiliates in the first half, up 5.5% from the first half of 2012. As a result, the total number of affiliates exceeded 145,000.<\/p>\n It is worth noting that the DCCI provides services which are carried out by different organizations in Brazil. It acts as a foreign trade chamber per se, issuing certificates of origin and certifies export papers, carries out commercial promotion actions and other foreign trade-related activities, but it also operates as a sort of trade association, trade board, arbitrage chamber, and as an issuer of papers for temporary imports of goods. In Brazil, some of these tasks are entrusted to government organizations. <\/p>\n The DCCI also analyses, reviews, and monitors bills of law; in the first half this year, 17 bills have undergone DCCI scrutiny. Furthermore, 417 trade disputes were filed with the DCCI for mediation. <\/p>\n The organization has also received 139 international delegations in the first half, up 15% from the first half of 2012.
