Up until last month, 318,600 cars, light commercial vehicles, trucks and buses were exported from the country. In the same period of 2012, 255,200 units were shipped. In July this year, the industry exported 52,500 vehicles, up 75.9% from July 2012. Due to the increase in foreign sales, the National Association of Vehicle Manufacturers (Anfavea) has revised up its export projection for 2013.

According to the association, shipments should be up 20% in 2013 from 2012. The Anfavea’s initial forecast was that exports should drop by 4.6% this year. “The export performance is a result of stronger activity at importing markets, and does not reflect increased competitiveness on our part,” said the Anfavea chairman and director of Institutional Affairs at GM Brazil, Luiz Moan Yabiku Júnior. The leading buyer of Brazilian cars is Argentina.

“We are at the final stages of elaborating Exportar-Auto (federal government export incentive program), designed to boost competitiveness and make Brazil into an export platform again,” said Yabiku according to a press release from Anfavea.

The export projection was not the only revision announced by Anfavea. Good sales of agricultural machinery have also led to a reassessment for 2013. According to the association, 7,600 agricultural machines were sold in July, up 20% from July 2012 and 3.4% from June this year. Year-to-date, the industry sold 48,700 units, up 28% from 2012.

The agricultural machinery industry is expected to see an 18.4% increase in domestic wholesale sales in 2013. The prior forecast was of a 4% to 5% increase. Output should be up 13.5%, while the previous forecast was 3%.

Anfavea has ascribed the increase in agricultural machinery sales to the “great” crop performance, and to the financing conditions offered by the program Finame PSI, which provides for financing of up to 100% of goods’ prices, allowing for the debt to be amortized over 144 months, at interest rates of around 3.5% per year, depending on the product purchased.

Anfavea has also announced that last month’s output was the Brazilian auto industry’s best ever for the month of July. A total of 312,300 vehicles were made, up 3.7% from July 2012 and down 2.7% from June 2013. Year-to-date in 2013, 2.17 million cars, light commercial vehicles, trucks and buses were made, up 15.8% from the same period in 2012. Year-to-date in 2013, 2.14 million new vehicles have been licensed in Brazil, up 2.9% from January to July 2012.

*Translated by Gabriel Pomerancblum

Press Release/VW

Brazil’s vehicle manufacturers association has revised up its foreign sales projection for 2013 after a 25% hike in exports from January through July.
