According to results released this Monday (12th) by the Brazilian Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade, exports stood at US$ 6.777 billion and imports stood at US$ 6.184 billion.<\/p>\n<p>Exports averaged at US$ 968.1 million per day, down 0.5% from the same period in 2012. Imports averaged at US$ 883.4 million per day, up 6% from the same period in 2012.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Ministry, basic goods exports were up 6.7% based on daily averages, mostly due to increased exports of copper ore, soybean, livestock, and poultry, beef and pork. Manufactured goods exports were down 7.4% due to a decline in exports of aircraft, engines and generators, cargo vehicles, flat-rolled steel, fuel oils, pumps and compressors, pneumatics and auto parts. <\/p>\n<p>Semi-manufactured goods exports were also down. According to the ministry, the 6.8% decline was driven by exports of semi-manufactured gold, ferroalloys, raw soy oil, crude aluminium and cast iron. <\/p>\n<p>Imports of manufactured goods were down 4.5%, imports of semi-manufactured goods were up 16.6%, and imports of basic goods were up 15.3%. Imports of the following items increased: grains for milling (33%), fuels and lubricants (26.5%), pharmaceuticals (18.9%), copper and its products (15.7%), optics and precision instruments (15.2%), rubber and its products (11.5%), mechanical equipment (10.5%) and plastics and its products (15.3%).<\/p>\n<p>Year-to-date, the trade balance is running a US$ 4.396 billion deficit. In the same period of 2012, a US$ 11.483 billion surplus was posted.
