The screening and the conversation with the filmmaker are part of the 8th Arab World Film Festival, organized by the Institute of Arab Culture (Icarabe) and sponsored by the <em>Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The film will also open the Rio de Janeiro edition of the festival on September 4th at the Bank of Brazil Cultural Centre. In S&atilde;o Paulo, the festival opened on the 15th with <em>Five Broken Cameras<\/em>, by the Palestinian Emad Burnat.<\/p>\n<p>According to information from the Icarabe, Abdallah&rsquo;s work highlights the role of women in Arab struggles and gives voice to Egyptian females in the period that followed the ousting of Hosni Mubarak, in 2011. Four women discuss topics such as family, marriage, divorce and domestic violence. They are people from different cultural backgrounds and ages: an elderly divorced lady, a housewife and mother, a storeowner, and an activist. <\/p>\n<p>The film, according to the Icarabe, was shown at the Berlin Festival and won the best documentary director at the 2012 Doha Tribeca Film Festival. &ldquo;The power that cinema, and particularly documentary, can have, is that it provides an opportunity for deep reflection, one which the news, with its analytical immediateness, and History, with its retrospective grasp, are unable to provide,&rdquo; said the director in an interview to the institute&rsquo;s website.<\/p>\n<p>The festival will continue until Sunday (1st) in S&atilde;o Paulo and until September 16th in Rio.
