According to the organization, delegates from more than 150 countries are expected to attend.<\/p>\n<p>According to a communiqu&eacute; from the UN, subject matters will include the benefits of international migration to development, and how to reduce the economic and social costs of people flows. The organization reports that the number of migrants worldwide has increased from 175 million people in 2000 to 232 million in 2013.<\/p>\n<p>A report by the UN secretary general Ban Ki-moon will be discussed at the event. According to the communiqu&eacute;, the document outlines actions to be taken by countries in order to protect migrants&rsquo; rights, such as adopting conventions on the matter, creating opportunities for legal migration, lowering the cost for expatriate workers to remit funds to their native countries, protecting migrants involved in humanitarian crises &ndash; such as Syria&rsquo;s &ndash;, raising public awareness of the migrants&rsquo; contributions to the countries they live and work in, and fighting human trafficking, among other issues.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Migration should be recognized as a positive force for development, as it often enhanced the productive capacity of origin countries, relieved labour shortages and spread knowledge and idea.
