According to information released by the state-owned news agency <em>KUNA<\/em>, the funds will be transferred over the next five years. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I directed officials of the Fund to extend soft loans to African countries in the amount of USD one billion during the next five years, not to mention investments by a number of Kuwaiti corporations in various sectors [in African countries]&rdquo;, Sabah said.<\/p>\n<p>The announcement was made during the 3rd Arab-African Summit, which is taking place this Tuesday and Wednesday (20th) in the Kuwaiti capital. The Gulf country&rsquo;s emir also said he is willing to coordinate an investment plan worthy over US$ 1 billion in partnership with global financial institutions for infrastructure projects in Africa.<\/p>\n<p>Apart from the loan to Africa, the KFAED has also negotiated bilateral agreements. The Fund will loan US$ 10.2 million to Malawi for the construction of a road. Djibouti, which will also build a road, has received US$ 52.2 million. Cape Verde has been loaned US$ 13.6 million for healthcare system improvements. Somalia should see a US$ 10.6 million loan for small and micro agribusiness projects.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Support to Dubai <\/strong> <\/p>\n<p>This Tuesday, Sabah has also stated that Kuwait supports Dubai&rsquo;s bid to host Expo 2020, a global fair held every ten years.
