São Paulo – The National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac) should promote on Friday (22) the auction for concession of expansion, maintenance and exploration rights of Antônio Carlos Jobim\/Galeão international airport, in Rio de Janeiro, and Tancredo Neves airport, in Confins, in the metropolitan region of Belo Horizonte. The public session should take place at the São Paulo Stock Exchange (BMF&Bovespa), in São Paulo.<\/p>\n
Together, the two airports have a throughput that represents 14% of the country’s passenger, 10% of cargo and 12% of aircraft movement. Both Galeão and Confins will be inspected and managed by Anac, as is the case with São Gonçalo do Amarante airport, in Rio Grande do Norte, privatised in 2011; and Guarulhos and Viracopos, in São Paulo; as well as Juscelino Kubitschek airport, in Brasília, auctioned in February last year.<\/p>\n
Galeão has a yearly throughput of 17.5 million passengers. The concession is for 25 years, and may be extended once for another five. According to the Anac, expectations are for 60 million passengers to use the airport in 2038, when the concession ends. The minimum bid is R$ 4.82 billion (US$ 2.1 billion) and the estimated investment is R$ 5.7 billion.<\/p>\n
The company to manage Confins will have to invest at least R$ 3.5 billion in the airport, whose minimum bid is R$ 1.09 billion (US$ 480 million). The span for concession is 30 years, also possibly extended by another five. The movement is 10.4 million passengers a year, and by the end of the concession, expectations are for 43 million passengers to use the airport each year.<\/p>\n
In a press statement, Anac explained the operation of the auction. According to the agency, the dispute for airports will be simultaneous and companies cannot participate in more than one consortium. Furthermore, a same economic group, alone or in a consortium, can only win the tender for one airport.<\/p>\n
