Exports were up 2.6% from 95,500 units in the same period last year.

Exports also increased in November. In November 2012, 10,000 motorcycles were shipped abroad, whereas in November this year 685 additional units were exported, amounting to a total of 10,600. The amount is up 6.6% from November 2012, but down 1.6% from October 2013.

Brazilian motorcycle production has declined. Year-to-date through November this year, 1.58 million units were made, down 2.2% from the same period in 2012, when 1.62 million units were manufactured. Output also declined in November from October, by 9.6%. A total of 155,500 units were made in November, as against 171,900 in October.

The industry did not perform well this year, and there are no prospects of recovery in 2014. According to Abraciclo projections released this Thursday (5th), production next year should remain on par with this year. “The organization believes that the scenario of economic uncertainty and the higher number of holidays due next year, due to Brazil’s hosting the FIFA World Cup, should impact the industry’s results,” according to a press release from the association.

“We are expecting stability in 2014, with no changes from 2013, a year in which credit selectivity and a decline in economic activity have persisted. The World Cup should cause Brazilians to consume other types of product, such as television sets, and as a result they may postpone the decision of purchasing a motorcycle,” says Abraciclo chairman Marcos Fermanian.

By the end of this year, the association believes production volume, wholesale sales and export figures will be similar to those of 2012. Brazil currently boasts a 20 million-strong motorcycle fleet, and average annual output is 1.7 million units. The country is the world’s fifth leading motorcycle manufacturing country.

*Translated by Gabriel Pomerancblum

Press Release/Honda

Year-to-date through November, 98,000 units were shipped abroad, as against 95,500 units in the same period of 2012.
