São Paulo – The Brazilian company Companhia de Participações em Concessões (CPC) has won an auction for the Mato Grosso do Sul state stretch of the road BR-163, one of the main transport routes for grain in Brazil. The auction winner, which controls the concessionaire CCR, among others, won the bidding round by presenting a cost of R$ 4.38 per 100 kilometres travelled, at a markdown of 52.7% from the maximum amount set in the call for tender by the National Land Transport Agency (ANTT), which was R$ 9.27. Six groups participated in the tender. <\/p>\n
The auction winner will have 30 years to explore the highway stretch at hand, which begins on the border with the state of Mato Grosso, to the north, and ends at the border with Paraná, to the south. The stretch will see R$ 5.69 billion in investment, including recovery, duplication, conservation, construction of local lanes in urban areas, footbridges, and intersections. Throughout the 847.2 kilometres included in the concession to the CPC, nine toll plazas will be installed. The toll will only be allowed to be charged once at least 10% of duplication works and improvements are completed. <\/p>\n
Another stretch of the road, in the state of Mato Grosso, has already been auctioned. The Brazilian minister of Transports, César Borges, told Agência Brasil <\/em>that he was “pleased” with the auction’s result. According to Borges, out of 7,000 vehicles which travel the BR-163 each day, 4,500 are trucks.
