Financial support is offered to foreign publishers and cultural institutions which wish to bring over authors for book promotion. Applications for the first phase of the program should be submitted by March 10, according to the announcement made on the website of the FBN, branch of the Ministry of Culture.<\/p>\n<p>Participation is open to foreign publishers that have already printed works by Brazilian authors or those that have acquired the publication rights. Authors must have published at least one book in Brazil in the area of literature or humanities, in genres such as novels, short stories, chronicles, children&rsquo;s or teenager&rsquo;s literary works, drama, reference works, literary essays, or essays is social sciences, history or popular science.<\/p>\n<p>The events in which the author will participate must take place before the end of this year. The first phase of the grant program, whose applications end on March 10, is for trips between April 28 and July 31. For events to take place between August 01 and December 31, applications must be submitted by June 09. Applications will be evaluated by a commission formed by three FBN representatives, one representative from the Ministry of Culture and one specialist in literature or translation.<\/p>\n<p>Each chosen publisher will receive financial support of up to US$ 4,000 per request. The grant should be used only to cover travel and lodging expenses for the duration of the activities in the other country. According to information from the FBN, in all, the Foundation will spend R$ 200,000 with the program during the year.<\/p>\n<p>The criteria for author and publisher selection include the level of contribution to the dissemination of Brazilian literature and culture ensuing from the proposed events; the relevance of the promotion of Brazilian literature and culture that the author will be able to offer at literary events abroad; and the coherence and capacity of the foreign publisher to carry out its proposed event program successfully.
