Out of the total amount, US$ 1.59 billion concerned trade-related operations, i.e. exports and imports. Another US$ 19 million consisted of financial operations, i.e. foreign direct investment, loans, investment and profits and dividends remittances.<\/p>\n<p>The Brazilian foreign exchange flow was negative early in the month, but changed gears in the second half of January, with a US$ 2.89 billion surplus in the third week and a US$ 608 million surplus from the 27th to the 31st. <\/p>\n<p>In December 2013, the Brazilian forex flow ran an US$ 8.78 billion deficit.
